Translated from French, Concours d’Elegance means “Competition of Elegance”.  Following in the footsteps of other Concours around the country, the 10,000 Lakes Concours, open to the public, presents a one day collection of pristine, classic, rare and very valuable cars.  Whether you have a passion for cars, history, art or enjoying a beautiful summer day, the 10,000 Lakes Concours car show brings a unique and awesome opportunity to those in the Midwest.
The 10,000 Lakes Concours d’Elegance is an annual event that began in 2013 on the shores of Lake Minnetonka in the aptly chosen historic town of Excelsior, Minnesota.
As the official artist of the 10,000 Lakes Concours since it’s inception in 2013 and an Excelsior resident since 1992, Thom Lofquist proudly presents this years stunning image featuring last years “Best Car in Show” - a 1931 Marmon, owned by Gary Severn of California.
Shining proudly in all her glory, this rare beauty is presented in the scene of how things would have looked, if she were to have been in Excelsior in her heyday - the 1930’s.  One can envision traveling in the luxurious Marmon out to Excelsior, perhaps from the east, to spend the summer by the cool waters of Lake Minnetonka.  Dining at the Blue Line Café, taking trips on the steam boat “Minnehaha” and enjoying all the thrilling rides the amusement park had to offer, it was a glorious time in Excelsior’s history.  And it was certainly the time and place to be seen in such a stunning automobile!

Taking something that “is” and painting it into something that “isn’t” is Thom’s specialty.  In this case the Marmon exists in our present time and he painted it into a past that no longer exists.
